internet tv

Co-founder of Skype and disruptive entrepreneur Janus Friis sets out to revolutionise the way we watch Television with his online TV service www.joost.com. Joost offers TV channels a secure copyright protected solution that even offers them a slice of the ad revenue. The advertising supported model is proving successful, with Joost boasting a respectful 353 channels and 17,000 programmes. Is this the new way to watch TV? Friis says “We’re in an early phase of internet-based TV. It’s like file sharing in 1999 and VOIP in 2002.” Watch out as we all know how ubiquitous file sharing and VOIP are now.

typography 2.0

In today’s multimedia world of Flash animation, video, audio and podcasting it’s easy to forget that the majority of information on the web is in the form of text. The range of fonts that can be used for text has been very limited in the past, but as more corporate clients insist that their brands are represented accurately online expect to see a change in this area. Moreover there is still an extreme lack of good quality writing on websites as it always seems to take a secondary place to website design.

mobile internet

Dare I even mention the iPhone, well yes, I know you’ve all heard of it and probably have an opinion, but it has revolutionised the way people can view the web with its web browsing experience. WebKit-powered phones offer the first genuinely good web-browsing experience on a mobile phones which means we will see more websites geared towards mobiles and linking that with an SMS marketing initiative. Remember we spend more time with our mobiles than our partners, family or friends!

There are certain rules that businesses ignore when it comes to producing great online marketing. We’ll be highlighting some of these each week.

Know Your Customers: Too often great design can fail as it is targeting the wrong customer base. It is up to the client to know who their customers, if they don’t they must conduct the proper market research to identify the group. Once the group is identified they are easier to target.

Allocate enough to your marketing budget: Many businesses never allocate enough to their marketing budget. They do this at their peril. In an overcrowded market place a healthy marketing budget strategically targeted is the only way to beat the competition.

Websites are like gardens: They need constant tending. Whether it be optimization, keyword selection, updates or new pages you must keep your website fresh and updated. This is a full time job. Allocate one individual in your company to work with your online agency to achieve this.

MacBook Air

At last a slim line laptop from apple and it’s the thinnest laptop in the world! Surely there can be no better time for PC users to make the conversion to this uber brand. Unsurpassable design, ultra stable operating system, user friendly and very, very thin.

Amazon Kindle

An e-book reader that connects to the internet, but is completely useless if you don’t want to buy your books from Amazon. It doesn’t support PDF, cannot handle graphics competently and you have to pay for your RSS feeds. Who actually reads e-books - anyone?

Red Bull Flight Lab

A great example of an interactive website to promote Red Bull and their sponsorship of airplane racing. You can design your own plane and then try flying it into floating cans of Red Bull before ditching in the ocean. Addictive, a bit like Red Bull.
